Dr. B.R. Asokan is a distinguished academic and medical professional with an extensive career in pharmacology and medical education. Hailing from Puducherry,  he graduated from Thanjavur Medical College & Hospital, affiliated with Madras University (now part of TN Dr. MGR Medical University). He earned his Master’s degree in Pharmacology from RMMC&H, Annamalai University.

He served as a Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacology from 2019 to 2023. He was also the Coordinator of the Medical Education Unit (MEU) at Aarupadai Veedu Medical College from 2016 to June 2023. His academic and administrative roles include serving as the Chairperson of the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) and a member of various other committees at VMCON and AVMC&H. His leadership extended to the Clinical Trial Unit at AVMC&H, where he held the position of Chief from 2019 to 2023.

Throughout his career, he has been deeply involved in research, with 27  full paper publications in national and international journals and 3 approved patent rights. He has presented his work at numerous national and state conferences, receiving multiple awards for his research and extension activities. Notably, he has guided both undergraduate and postgraduate students in ICMR projects and has organized many CME workshops.

His  professional qualifications are extensive. He holds several diplomas and degrees in diverse fields, including Industrial Hygiene, Population & Health Management, Pollution Control, Maternal and Child Health, Sociology, Population Studies, Information Technology, Human Resource Management, Varmalogy & Thokkanam Science, and more. He has completed advanced courses in Medical Education, Computer Applications, Hospital Management, Palliative Medicine, Biomedical Research, Drug Delivery, and Clinical Trials, among others.

His academic appointments include recognition as Chief Superintendent and Assistant Chief Superintendent for University Examinations conducted at AVMC&H. He has also been a BOS member for AHS and UG Medical at VMRF. His  committee memberships are numerous, including roles in the Pharmacovigilance committee, Pharmacotherapeutic committee, Institutional Curriculum committee, and various other institutional and academic committees.

His  contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous honors and awards. He received special recognition from NIPMED and SWASTIK Trust, the AVMC & H Dean for his role in the Medical Education Unit, and multiple best paper awards for his research. He was honored with the Exemplary Services Award by the Honorable Chancellor Dr. A.S. Ganesan, the Achievers Award from Assist World Records Research Foundation, and the National Builder Award from Rotary District-2981. His accolades also include the Best Doctor Award from PARA Awards, an appreciation award from PWC for COVID service, and numerous other prestigious awards from national and international organizations.

His  research interests focus on herbal research and experimental pharmacology. His commitment to clinical trials was evident in his leadership of the Clinical Trial Unit at AVMC&H from 2019 to 2023.
