John Peter Kirubagaran: Champion for Underprivileged Women and Children
John Peter Kirubagaran is a distinguished social worker with an extensive career spanning over 34 years, dedicated to uplifting underprivileged women and children. Recognized for his impactful contributions, Kirubagaran was awarded an honorary Doctorate by the Indian Virtual University a unit of Life Long Learning registered under Niti Aayog, Government of India. This accolade was in recognition of his significant work in social concern, specifically empowering women and children in education. At the present he is perusing PhD from MLCU. He also received the Best Project Officer award from Literacy India Trust in 1991 for training 6,000 animators in Karnataka. In 2017, Kirubagaran was honored with the Governor’s Award and the Human Rights Award for his dedicated social and community work.
In his current roles, Kirubagaran holds several prestigious positions. As Chairman, he leads the United International School, United Composite Pre University College, United International Degree College. Plans under process for United International Nursing College, and United International Allied Science College. Additionally, he serves as Founder and Executive Director, President of United Evangelical Mission India (NGO) Regd. Trust. President of Samyuktha Rashtriya Sewa plans to reach out to 1,00,000/- (one lakh) children. His leadership spans across various educational and social institutions, reflecting his commitment to holistic development.
Kirubagaran’s notable achievements include collaborating with organizations to address social inequality and human rights issues. He has worked with donors to provide new clothing, bedding, sports materials, and educational supplies to marginalized communities. During emergencies, such as the 2018 Kerala floods, he facilitated the distribution of essential items like dry rations, cots, and water filters. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kirubagaran’s efforts were crucial, providing groceries to 7,600 families and COVID Care Kits to 1,600 families across India.
One of his significant contributions is the New Life Children Program, which began in Bangalore and expanded to include children’s homes across India. This initiative supports children’s basic needs and education, benefitting over 5,000 children who have gone on to achieve higher education and professional success. Kirubagaran also founded the Women’s Empowerment Program, which provides training in various skills such as tailoring and digital literacy. To date, 2,170 women have been empowered through this program, with 95% securing jobs or becoming self-employed.
Kirubagaran’s Community Development Program focuses on literacy and vocational training, benefiting over 735,987 families and training 75,240 individuals. The program also conducts free medical and eye clinics, improving healthcare access for the underprivileged.
He established the United International School to provide quality education and support to underprivileged children, with over 1,100 students currently enrolled. The school also offers free education, books, and uniforms to 45 children from difficult circumstances. Additionally, Kirubagaran’s commitment to women’s empowerment continues through skill development programs for young women from impoverished families, offering training in computer skills and English.
On a personal note, John Peter Kirubagaran is married to Joyce Lynn Dhanamani Peter. They have two sons, Joshua, an aspiring entrepreneur, and Joab, a musical prodigy. They recently adopted a daughter, Joan. Kirubagaran enjoys spending quality time with his family, reading, and playing the piano.
