“Dr. Suju C. Joseph: A Visionary Leader in Chemistry and Education”
Dr. Suju C. Joseph is a distinguished academic and researcher in the field of Chemistry, with a remarkable career marked by significant contributions to both academia and industry. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology in Hyderabad, where he also conducted extensive research. Following his doctorate, He completed three years of postdoctoral research at prestigious institutions, including the University of Texas, Dallas, and the University of Kansas, USA. His work during this time further solidified his expertise and global recognition in the field.
He then joined Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. in Hyderabad, where he served as Principal Scientist for six years. His tenure at the pharmaceutical company was highly productive, leading to the filing of three patents—one Indian and two international—in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, underscoring his significant contributions to scientific innovation. His research in this area has had a lasting impact, and he has published over 60 research articles, with 32 of them appearing in renowned international journals with high impact factors, such as those published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, and the American Chemical Society.
In June 2011, He joined Mar Ivanios College in Trivandrum as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry. Over the years, his commitment to teaching and research led to his appointment as the Head of the Department of Chemistry in 2021. During his tenure, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the department’s growth and academic direction. As the Head of the Department, He has made several impactful contributions, including revising the Undergraduate and Postgraduate syllabi as Chairman of the Board of Studies in Chemistry. He also spearheaded the introduction of a Diploma Course in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, which has proven to be an invaluable addition to the department’s offerings.
His leadership extends beyond academia, as he has taken on various roles to support the college’s development. Notably, he served as the NAAC Coordinator during the 5th Cycle of Assessment and Accreditation, helping the college achieve an A++ grade. Additionally, he has been actively involved in the coordination and management of academic programs, including leading the implementation of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme in 2024, in line with the New Education Policy.
He is also dedicated to the welfare of the college community, serving as the Secretary of AMICOS, the Alumni Association of Mar Ivanios College, and as the President of the Mar Ivanios College Employees Welfare Society. His dedication to enhancing the well-being of staff and fostering alumni engagement reflects his holistic approach to leadership.
