“Dr. Ramanna P: Leading Physicist and Educator at Raichur University”
Dr. Ramanna P is a distinguished academic and researcher currently serving as the Coordinator of the Department of Physics at Raichur University, Karnataka. He has made significant contributions to the field of Physics through his research and teaching. He completed his Ph.D. in Physics from Karnatak University, Dharwad, focusing on the “Spectroscopic Characterization of Some HOF Organic Linkers,” under the guidance of Prof. Jagdish R. Tonannavar. His doctoral research seamlessly blended experimental and theoretical approaches. He also holds an M.Sc. in Physics with a specialization in Materials Physics from Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi, where he graduated with First Class honors. His academic journey began with a B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science from Govt First Grade College, Shorapur, where he achieved First Class with Distinction.
Currently, he is engaged as Guest Faculty in the Department of Physics at Raichur University, where he continues to impart knowledge and mentor students, contributing significantly to their academic and professional development. His research interests lie in understanding the fundamental aspects of Hydrogen bonding in organic linker molecules. His work spans various technical domains, including Mid IR, Raman, and 1H NMR spectroscopic techniques, as well as ab initio and Density Functional Theory (DFT) quantum theoretical modeling. He has conducted extensive studies on systems like Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs), Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs), and Hydrogen-bonded Organic Frameworks (HOFs), focusing on organic linkers such as 5-Bromoisophthalic acid, 2,5-Dihydroxyterephthalic acid, Biphenyl 3,3′,5,5′-tetracarboxylic acid, and 9,10-Antracenedicarboxylic acid. His ongoing research explores the structural, vibrational, and electronic properties of inter- and intra-molecular interactions, including Hydrogen bonding, Halogen-bonding, weak Van der Waals interactions, and steric repulsive interactions, with the aim of advancing the design, synthesis, and characterization of HOF materials.
He has a strong publication record, with notable works featured in journals like the Journal of Molecular Structure. His research on H-bonded cyclic dimers of organic linkers has garnered attention, and he has presented his findings at various international conferences, including the International Conference on Frontier Areas of Science and Technology (ICFAST-2023) and the 9th International Conference on Perspectives in Vibrational Spectroscopy (ICOPVS-2022). He has also actively participated in numerous workshops, seminars, and conferences, reflecting his commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Beyond his research, he is deeply passionate about education. He has served as a resource person and mentor for M.Sc. students, guiding them in project work and laboratory experiments. His teaching experience includes a significant tenure as a Lab Assistant at the Department of Physics, Karnatak University, Dharwad, from 2017 to 2022. His academic excellence has been recognized with the UGC-NFST Fellowship for the year 2020-2021, highlighting his outstanding contributions to the field of Physics.
On a personal note, he hails from Shellagi, Shorapur, in Yadgir District, Karnataka. He is fluent in Kannada, English, and Hindi, and belongs to the ST (Nayak) community. His unwavering commitment to academic excellence and research continues to inspire both his students and peers, making him a respected figure in the academic community.
