Dr. (Hon) Babita Hundal, a renowned professional artist from Mohali, Punjab, is widely celebrated for her creativity and perseverance. Born in Ambala and raised in Ferozepur, she hails from the esteemed Sodhi family. Her early education, which included attending KV & Convent School Ferozepur, Sacred Heart School Dalhousie, and South Delhi Polytechnic, played a pivotal role in shaping her artistic journey. Her passion for art began at a young age, surprising her family as she became the first in her lineage to pursue a career in this field. Art became her refuge, helping her navigate life’s challenges while molding her into a versatile and accomplished artist.
This passion for self-expression has been a cornerstone of her success, reinforcing the importance of introspection and personal growth. Her professional journey as an artist began with her first solo exhibition in Chandigarh in 1987. She further honed her skills as a Textile Designer at La’Affair in New Delhi, a role that helped develop her artistic abilities. Over the years, she held a second solo exhibition in New Delhi in 1992, followed by another one in Panchkula in 2018. From 2008 to 2017, she worked as an artist at an institution in Mohali, where she balanced her time between teaching and creating art. Since 2017, she has participated in numerous national and international group exhibitions, both online and offline, showcasing her talent on a global stage. Dr. Hundal’s contributions to art have garnered significant recognition. She has been honored twice in the Guinness World Records, in 2021 and 2022, for her artistic achievements.
Her outstanding work has also earned her various medals and trophies, further establishing her reputation as a distinguished artist. Works such as “Smooth Sail,” showcased in Chandigarh, and “Unveil the Desire,” which won the Best Art Award in Kathmandu, highlight her exceptional talent. Her artwork has been acquired by collectors across India and internationally, demonstrating its broad appeal. Her academic background is equally impressive, supporting her artistic endeavors. She holds a three-year degree in textile designing, an advanced course in the same field, and one-year certifications in fashion designing, commercial art, and an Art Master’s degree with distinction from South Delhi Polytechnic. Dr. Hundal’s philosophy on art is deep and reflective: “While expressing our creativity is beneficial in more ways than one, art can go deeper than many people realize. Everyone is an artist; it’s just that our modes of expression differ.”
Her preference for realistic styles and her connection to the world around her are evident in her work. Although she acknowledges the challenges of translating her ideas onto canvas, she views these obstacles as opportunities for growth and self-improvement. Her recent exhibitions include the Art Carnival 2023 in Budapest and the Teleport 2023 exhibition in Poland. In 2024, she received an Honorary Doctorate and a membership certificate from the World Human Rights Protection Commission. She has also been featured in two prominent art books and appeared on the cover of Icons of India magazine, further solidifying her position in the art world.
