Dr. Arvind Kumar Srivastava: Advocate for Justice and Social Change
Dr. Arvind Kumar Srivastava, an esteemed advocate practicing at the District & Session Court in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, was born in 1975 in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. His career, marked by a commitment to social justice and the honor of the legal profession, began with a strong educational foundation. Arvind completed his initial schooling at Panna Lal Bhalla Municipal Inter College in Haridwar and graduated from S.M.J.N. (PG) College, Haridwar. Pursuing his dream of becoming an advocate, he enrolled in J.V. Jain Degree College, Saharanpur, for a law degree in 1998 and completed it in 2001. Since then, he has been a dedicated practitioner at the District and Session Court in Haridwar.
In 2003, Arvind married Rekha Srivastava, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in his professional achievements. Her influence has played a significant role in his success, highlighting the importance of a strong partnership in overcoming challenges and reaching professional milestones. Arvind’s career is not just about personal success but also about contributing to society. He chose the law field for the betterment of society, focusing on the upliftment of the economically weaker sections. This commitment led him to establish the “Rule of Law & Justice” foundation in 2012, aimed at providing free legal aid and raising awareness among the financially challenged.
The foundation brought Arvind in contact with influential personalities, including Ashok Kumar, IPS, the DGP of Uttarakhand. Kumar, impressed by Arvind’s dedication, and his team established the ‘Mahila Aichik Bureau,’ a judicial body dedicated to women’s justice. Arvind’s career is also marked by significant research and literary contributions. His work on the book “Triple Denial,” examining the practice of Triple Talaq, involved interviewing 28 Muslim women who had been victims of this custom. The publication of this book contributed to the landmark decision by the Parliament of India on July 30, 2019, to declare Triple Talaq illegal and unconstitutional.
Continuing his literary contributions, Arvind authored “Haan Main Vivadit Hoon?” and “Main Nirbhaya Hoon?” These works delve into controversial laws and the intricacies of Indian laws related to rape and sexual crimes. His efforts were recognized with the Bhartiya Sahitya Ratna Award. The anthology “Main Nirbhaya Hoon?” was also awarded the best anthology of the year 2022 by Ukiyoto Publishing House and later translated into English as “Am I Nirbhaya?!”
Arvind’s leadership extends beyond his practice. He was elected General Secretary of the District Bar Association Haridwar in 2018 and serves as a Member of TACs, BSNL Haridwar, under the Ministry of Communication, Government of India, for the terms 2020-2022 and 2022-2024. His accolades include the prestigious Honoris Causa title of Doctorate, awarded by Commonwealth Vocational University, presented by Prof. (Dr.) Ripu Ranjan Sinha, a Global Educational Promoter appointed by the United Nations.
In 2023, Arvind’s contributions to literature were further recognized when Three Finger Entertainment honored him with the Excellency Iconic Award for Best Author of the Year. His literary achievements continued with the publication of his book “Dange (Massacre of Hindus)” in December 2023, which became an Amazon bestseller in March 2024. This recognition underscores his ability to address and bring awareness to critical social issues through his writings.
