Colonel Sushil Kumar Sharma’s family legacy is a compelling narrative of resilience, dedication, and honor, illustrating values and sacrifices that have shaped three generations. Hailing from the modest village of Khajuri in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, the family’s journey from humble beginnings to remarkable achievements serves as an inspiring example. The family’s story begins with Smt. (Late) Jai Raju Devi, a woman of strong character, and her husband Shri (Late) Mata Prasad Sharma, a lower-class farmer and patriot. Despite their limited resources, including a small farm and two mud rooms, they upheld their traditions and values with immense pride.

The family deity, ‘Thakur Maharaj,’ continues to be worshipped in their home, and the Kuldevi, Vindhavasini of Vindhyachal, Mirzapur, remains an integral part of their heritage. The family’s legacy continued to evolve with the second generation. Shri (Late) J.N. Sharma, who began his career as a housekeeper for Smt. (Late) Uma Shankar Munshi, a wealthy Kashmiri Pandit widow, received critical support, including education, from her. Despite early familial responsibilities, Shri J.N. Sharma was appointed as a ‘Peshkaar’ in the Allahabad Civil Court at just 14.

His son, Squadron Leader Ram Narayan Sharma, went on to have a distinguished career in the Indian Air Force. He was honored with several awards, including recognition from Presidents and Prime Ministers, for his exceptional service. After his first wife, Smt. (Late) Madhuri Sharma, passed away, Squadron Leader Sharma remarried Mrs. Prabha Sharma, who was known for her influential role in supporting the families of India’s VVIPs. His service included flying VVIPs worldwide and participating in major wars and operations. The third generation, led by Colonel Sushil Kumar Sharma, continues the tradition of extraordinary service. With 29 years of operational and educational experience, Colonel Sharma served in diverse locations across India, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Siachin, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. He retired in October 2023 with an illustrious career. An alumnus of K.V.

His story is a powerful testament to the enduring values of honor, sacrifice, and perseverance. Their legacy exemplifies the strength and spirit of the nation, and Colonel Sharma’s message emphasizes the importance of cherishing national values.
