Dr. S. Subramanian, a distinguished academician in the field of Electrical Engineering, has made significant contributions to both teaching and research throughout his illustrious career. Currently serving as a Professor and Former Head (2019-2022) of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, India, Dr. Subramanian has played a pivotal role in shaping the department’s success.

Under his leadership, the Department of Electrical Engineering at Annamalai University received NBA Accreditation (2022-2025), a testament to Dr. Subramanian’s commitment to academic excellence. He also served as the NAAC Coordinator for the department in 2022, further highlighting his dedication to quality assurance and institutional accreditation.

His academic journey began with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering followed by a Master’s Degree in Power System Engineering from TCE, Madurai Kamaraj University, where he excelled as a rank holder at the undergraduate level and achieved distinction at the postgraduate level. In 2001, he earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Annamalai University, marking the beginning of his prolific research career.

A Senior Member of IEEE and a Fellow in the Institution of Engineers (India), Dr. Subramanian is actively involved in various professional bodies, including SSI, MISTE, MISCA, and MIoS. With over thirty-three years of teaching and research experience, he has left an indelible mark on the academic community.

Dr. Subramanian’s research prowess is evident from his extensive publication record, comprising 250 research articles, including 75 Web of Science articles and contributions to international conferences. He has authored a book on Electric Power Flow Analysis published by Lambert Publishers, Germany, and has contributed chapters to renowned publishers such as IET, Springer, and IGI Global. Additionally, his book on Computer-aided State Estimation of Electric Power Networks, published by Universal Publications, USA, has garnered recognition in the academic community.

As a mentor, Dr. Subramanian has guided numerous Ph.D. scholars and postgraduate students, with over 50 Ph.D. dissertations evaluated and 25 Ph.D. scholars and 35 postgraduate theses supervised under his guidance. He is also actively involved in peer review activities for reputed journals such as IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems and Elsevier.

In recognition of his scholarly achievements, Dr. Subramanian has received several awards, including the Best Researcher Award by Annamalai University in 2009, the Research Excellence Award by Institute of Scholars InSc ISO 2001-2015, and the Distinguished Faculty in Engineering Award by Venus International Faculty Awards-VIFA (ISO: 9001-2008) in 2019. Notably, he was honored with the National Excellence Award (Contribution to Student Development) in 2024.

Dr. Subramanian has led both Minor and Major Research Projects, with the latter conducted under TANSCHE (Tamilnadu State Council of Higher Education) on the topic of Tamilnadu Electricity Network Analysis with PMU Placements and IoT Smart Grid Development. His research impact is reflected in his impressive citation metrics, including 2705 research citations, 27 H index, and 59 I index on Google Scholar Citations.
