Colonel Sushil Kumar Sharma’s family legacy is a profound narrative of resilience, dedication, and honor, spanning three generations and reflecting values of sacrifice, patriotism, and commitment. The family’s remarkable journey began in the modest village of Khajuri in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, where their humble beginnings gave rise to a legacy that continues to inspire. The foundation of the family’s legacy was laid by Smt. (Late) Jai Raju Devi, a woman of strong character, and her husband, Shri (Late) Mata Prasad Sharma, a lower-class farmer and patriot. Despite their limited resources, including a small farm and two mud rooms, they maintained a deep connection to their traditions and values.

The family deity, ‘Thakur Maharaj,’ is still worshipped in their home, and the Kuldevi, Vindhavasini of Vindhyachal, Mirzapur, remains an integral part of their heritage, symbolizing their enduring faith and connection to their roots. The story of the Sharma family evolved in the second generation with Shri (Late) J.N. Sharma. Starting his career as a housekeeper for Smt. (Late) Uma Shankar Munshi, a wealthy Kashmiri Pandit widow, he received crucial support, including an education, which paved the way for his future. At the age of 14, Shri J.N. Sharma was appointed as a ‘Peshkaar’ in the Allahabad Civil Court, a role that marked the beginning of his family’s rise. His son, Squadron Leader Ram Narayan Sharma, became a highly decorated officer in the Indian Air Force.

His exemplary service, including flying VVIPs globally and participating in major wars and operations, earned him recognition from Presidents and Prime Ministers. After the untimely death of his first wife, Smt. (Late) Madhuri Sharma, Squadron Leader Sharma remarried Mrs. Prabha Sharma, who became an influential figure, supporting VVIPs and the nation’s first ladies during her husband’s tenure. The third generation, he carries forward the family’s tradition of service and commitment. With a distinguished career in the Indian Army, Colonel Sharma dedicated 29 years to the nation, serving in various operational and educational capacities across India, from Gujarat and Rajasthan to Jammu & Kashmir, Siachen, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland.

His service culminated in his retirement in October 2023. An alumnus of K.V. IIT Powai, Mumbai, Colonel Sharma holds multiple degrees, including a B.Sc., M.Sc. (Tech), M.D.C.S. (Computers), MA (Psychology), MBA (HR), Hotel Management, LLB, and is currently pursuing an LLM (Criminal Law) and a PhD (Psychology/Education). He also leads the PRABHASTHA Trust, which supports veterans, Veeranganas, Veernaaris, and orphans, while promoting the Indian Armed Forces. His brother, Anil Kumar Sharma, has made his mark in the IT sector as an entrepreneur and former CEO. With degrees in B.Sc., MCA, and MBA (Double), along with several global certifications, Anil Kumar Sharma, alongside his wife, Dr. Deepti Sharma, a senior psychologist and counselor, is dedicated to supporting low-income students through online coaching and providing consultancy in Vedic astrology and Vaastu Shastra. This family’s story is a testament to the enduring values of the joint family system, honor, sacrifice, and perseverance. Their legacy reflects the strength and spirit of the nation, with his message underscoring the importance of cherishing national values. His mantra of “Jai Kisan, Jai Jawan, Jai Vigyan, and Jai Amar Jawan Jyoti” continues to inspire future generations.
