S.D. Singh, a distinguished Forest Range Officer serving in the Territorial Range of the Deoghar Forest Division in Jharkhand, has dedicated over three decades to forest conservation, wildlife protection, and environmental sustainability. Dr. Singh began his service in the Forest and Environment Department of the Government of Jharkhand on February 3, 1989. Over the years, he has held several key positions, including his tenure at the Forest Research Institute (FRI) in Dehradun from 2003 to 2009, and as an Assistant Enforcement Officer with the Enforcement Directorate in New Delhi from 2010 to 2017. Since October 2017, he has served in his current role in Deoghar, Jharkhand. His diverse roles have allowed him to make significant contributions in forest research, enforcement, and territorial management. Notably, he played a critical role in the capture and rescue of wild animals, including a high-risk operation to capture a wild leopard, which earned him a prestigious award from the Government of Bihar in 1992.
Dr. Singh’s academic background is both extensive and diverse. He holds an MBA from L.N. Mishra Institute, a Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Management from Patna University, an LL.B., and a Diploma in Animal Welfare from Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. He has also undergone specialized training in areas such as forest fire management, biodiversity conservation, climate change, and GIS applications. His knowledge and expertise have been further enhanced by participation in various training programs, including workshops organized by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Forest Survey of India, and the Bombay Natural History Society.
Dr. Singh’s contributions to the field of forestry and environmental protection have been widely acknowledged. He has received several prestigious awards, including the ICFRE Excellence Nomination for outstanding service in forest management, the Green Ambassador Award for his efforts in environmental protection, the Chief Minister’s Award for his daring efforts in wildlife rescue, and the Honorary Directorate Award (2024) conferred by the European Professionals University, Dublin, and the World Culture and Environment Protection Commission. He was also honored with the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau Award for the successful rescue of a wild bear in Deoghar, and he has received felicitations from Bharat Petroleum and Lions Club International for his eco-development and conservation initiatives.
These accolades highlight Dr. Singh’s exceptional contributions to wildlife conservation and his relentless efforts to address environmental challenges. Beyond his professional responsibilities, Dr. Singh is a passionate advocate for environmental protection. As the Honorary Secretary of the Society for Conservation of Flora and Fauna, he leads various voluntary initiatives aimed at wildlife conservation.
