Dr. Raman Kumar Jha is a distinguished medical professional and the visionary Founder and Chairman of Durga Clinic and Vishwamaya Charitable Trust (VMCT). His dual dedication as a doctor and social worker exemplifies his commitment to leveraging his professional expertise to address and resolve the pressing needs of society.
His academic journey began with a graduation in Botany (H) from C.M.Sc. College in Darbhanga, followed by obtaining a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) from BR University. Despite his extensive medical education and successful career, his passion for social transformation led him to actively engage in social work. This passion culminated in the establishment of the Vishwamaya Charitable Trust (VMCT) in 2013, an organization named in honor of his grandparents, Vishwanath Jha and Maya Devi.
With over 15 years of medical experience, coupled with an equally extensive period of social work, he has been driven by an unwavering energy and commitment to social betterment. His vision for societal improvement is encapsulated in the concept of the “Smart Village.” His innovative idea aims to enhance the quality of life for villagers by making essential amenities such as farming equipment, medical facilities, banks, and IT kiosks accessible under one roof in every village. This comprehensive approach not only seeks to improve the living standards of villagers but also aims to boost their per capita income, thereby fostering economic growth at the grassroots level.
His dedication to social work is particularly evident in his response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by village communities during this unprecedented time, he intensified his efforts to provide critical support. To ensure broader reach and accessibility, he initiated online consultations through Durga Clinic, facilitating both audio and video consultations. This initiative, operating under the VMCT umbrella, has been instrumental in providing necessary medical advice and support to a larger segment of the population, especially in rural areas where healthcare access is limited.
Beyond his professional and social commitments, he maintains a well-rounded and fulfilling personal life. In his leisure time, he indulges in playing badminton, a sport that not only keeps him physically active but also helps him unwind from his demanding schedule. Additionally, he finds solace in music, which serves as a source of relaxation and inspiration. Gardening is another of his cherished hobbies, allowing him to connect with nature and find peace amidst his busy life.
His life and work epitomize the harmonious blend of professional excellence and passionate social service. His unwavering dedication to improving the lives of the underprivileged, coupled with his innovative vision for rural development, underscores his remarkable contributions to both the medical field and society at large. Through his relentless efforts and compassionate approach, he continues to inspire and drive positive change, making a significant impact on the lives of many.

Dr. Raman Kumar Jha was a medical practitioner along with some of his high profile colleagues who moved to the United States and the United Kingdom. Seeing him discontent with the job, his colleagues motivated him to pursue his aspiration of social work. He got a crude understanding of social entrepreneurship and became an active social worker providing free health checkups and occasionally distributing medicine. Driven by replicating the model of ‘SMART VILLAGE’ after seeing its effect in the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, he established Vishwamaya Charitable Trust (an ode to his grandparents, he combined their name Vishwanath & Maya) in 2013. He worked relentlessly using his experience of 15+ years of medicine combined with the same tenure of social work to realise his dreams.
