Nidhi Suuraj Saawant, an architect by education, has dedicated the past nine years of her life to animal welfare, transforming her vision into a mission to serve animals in need of medical attention. Her journey began modestly with the feeding of four dogs in her residential complex. Today, she proudly feeds over 100 dogs daily, showcasing her unwavering commitment and compassion.

Her involvement in animal welfare has evolved significantly over the years. What began as a simple act of feeding soon expanded into rescuing and sheltering animals. Witnessing the horrors of animal abuse firsthand was a turning point for her. This experience ignited her determination to establish an orphanage for dogs, providing a safe haven for those struggling to survive on the streets. Her dedication to the cause is evident in her collaborative efforts with the Nagarparishad of Kokan district. Over the past six months, she has played a pivotal role in the sterilization of approximately 3,800 dogs, significantly contributing to the control of the stray dog population in the region.

Her journey has not been without personal challenges. Diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, she found solace and strength in her work with the dogs. The animals she cares for became her source of peace and motivation, helping her to navigate through her illness with resilience and hope. Her story is a testament to the profound impact that compassion and dedication can have, not only on the lives of animals but also on her own well-being.

Her architectural background has likely contributed to her methodical and structured approach to animal welfare. Her ability to design and create safe, comfortable environments for animals in need is a direct reflection of her professional skills and her empathetic nature.
